In contrast to what you may think when reading the Frase, quiet quitting means doing your job exactly as the job description says and nothing extra.

Quiet quitting is the latest phenomenon that is taking over social media, specifically TikTok

As some young professionals reject the idea of going beyond in their employment and characterize their weaker passion as a type of "quitting," the phrase is earning millions of views on TikTok. These workers claim it is not about leaving the firm payroll. The goal is to continue working on it while concentrating on your extracurricular activities.

Sincere discussions on work-life balance as well as sarcastic humor can be found in the videos. Some people firmly prohibit working overtime in favor of their families. Others recommend coasting from 9 to 5, doing only what is necessary to get by. Many people wish to separate their identities from their professional lives.

What triggered this trend you may be asking yourself, well the reason for many people Is that they feel overlooked and unappreciated at their place of work and this is how they have chosen to show their bosses that if they are paying the minimum, they will be getting the minimum in return.

A lot of people are labeling it as the gen-z trend, well the reason for this is because most people that are joining this trend are people between the ages of 16-30, this new trend is for every job not only for corporate as some people may believe, from fast food workers to lawyers are joining this trend every day.

But there is a video of 41 years old Clayton Farris on TikTok going viral saying that when he notices this trend going around, he realizes he has already been doing this by not letting work stress follow him home.

“The most interesting part about it is nothing’s changed,” he said in his TikTok video. “I still work just as hard. I still get just as much accomplished. I just do not stress and internally rip myself to shreds.”
