Following the bittersweet ending to the first season of Netflix's Sweet Tooth, let's look at how Season 2 can follow Gus' emotional rollercoaster. WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 1 of Sweet Tooth, now streaming on Netflix. The first season of Netflix's Sweet Tooth is an emotional rollercoaster that details Gus (Christian Convery) making the trek to Colorado to find his mom, the mysterious Birdie. He doesn't want to be alone in a dangerous world that hates hybrids. Luckily, he has humans like Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) and Bear (Stephanie LaVie Owen) to accompany him as the military closes in. However, while the crew gets split up in a heartbreaking finale, key threads are set up to fashion a Season 2 filled with rebellion and reunion.

The Ending

Season 1 ended with Bear making radio contact with Birdie from her old home in Colorado. Bear's with her former colleague, Judy. They have Birdie's old files from the Fort Smith lab. It's possible that they could remotely work with Birdie, who is in Alaska trying to find microbes to cure the Sick. Birdie's return is a huge shocker. It gives her a chance to make up for placing Richard in danger by asking him to take Gus. He became Pubba (Gus' dad) on a date that went awry, so Birdie will have to process all this and deal with the repercussions of playing God. She could even work with Aditya should he escape. The problem is, once Abbot finds out Birdie's alive, he will send men after her. If he gets Birdie, then Aditya, Rani and the hybrids become expendable. So as much as Birdie is Sweet Tooth's deus ex machina, Bear and company will have to keep her hidden from the maniacal Abbot. If not, it could shape another disastrous chapter in this universe.

Aimee And Jepp's Hybrid Rescue

The sinister Abbot and the Last Men have taken Aimee's hybrids and Gus, leaving Jepperd for dead. Luckily, Aimee finds Jepp hiding out at a new base in the city. She makes it clear he has to rest up so they can get their hybrids back. After all, she's been a mom to Wendy, Bobby and many others, while Jepperd has come to love Gus like the son he lost years ago when the pandemic hit. This event could even bring them closer, as they've endured tragedies and mental breakdowns in the past. Jepperd's family went missing after he abandoned them, but Gus got him to feel for hybrids, which is redemption for hating his own child for being one. Seeing as Aimee was a therapist who felt like her patients were petty, she could also find another purpose in helping Jepp get over his past demons. Through all this mental work, he'd not just be the perfect soldier but also the perfect father figure to help Aimee rescue the children. If they're successful, they can even restart the Preserve at Essex County's Zoo. Seeing as his family was taken by the military and never confirmed dead, Jepp could also pursue finding them as he knows Gus would be in good hands with Wendy, Bobby and a new mom.

Aditya And Johnny's Defiance

Abbot has Aditya experimenting on hybrids, killing them to find a cure for the H5G9 virus. The tyrant wants to start a new world, deciding who can live according to his terms, but Aditya reluctantly does this. Abbot has his sick wife, Rani, so he has no choice. However, Aditya and Johnny, one of Abbot's key personnel when rounding up hybrids, may betray their leader. They both have sympathy for hybrids, and Aditya's keeping Gus' intelligence a secret as he senses something special. If Rani dies, Aditya could decide to switch sides. After Johnny's bullied by the boss, he could do the same too. Aditya may also opt to reconfigure Dr. Bell's work and develop new formulas that don't kill the hybrids, especially as Gus was created in a lab, not from birth like the others. Aditya may even become attached and care for cute ones like Wendy and Bobby. The fact he's a spiritual man and has shown guilt before -- and that Johnny also displays compassion toward animals -- hints Abbot will have internal issues. Abbot seems to rib Johnny like a little brother, too, which could be the one flaw Aditya can exploit.

Bear's Family Reunion

Bear joins Gus and Jepp after a civil war broke out in her Animal Army. Her team was meant to save hybrids, so she's still carrying out that mission, with Season 1 showing her reason why -- her sister's Wendy. She was taken when their parents died from the virus, but someone stole the pig-girl and dropped her off at Aimee's, who lived in the zoo back then. Thus, once Bear joins Aimee and Jepp, she'll go all out when she discovers her sister, "Pigtail," is alive and held prisoner. Bear may also have the rest of her former soldiers to partner with should Tiger come around and find her. Tiger didn't like that Bear was sparing Jepp when she saw how much he cared for Gus, so if they meet up and settle their differences, Aimee would have more allies for her quest. The Animals have already shown they're adept at killing Abbot's soldiers. Still, it'll be intriguing to see how they react to hearing Gus was bred in a lab and not a messiah and miracle of nature. They're hot-headed and unpredictable teens, so there's also the chance they think the deer-boy caused this apocalypse and turn on him as well.

Birdie And The Cure
